However, at the same time as we are joining together in an unprecedented show of Christian unity, there are people for whom lockdown is devastating and dangerous. The statistics have been in the news – with the UK’s largest domestic abuse charity, Refuge reporting a 700% increase in calls to its helpline in a single day. In comparison, a separate helpline for perpetrators of domestic abuse seeking help to change their behaviour received 25% more calls after the start of the COVID-19 lockdown.

And it’s not just in the UK; UN Women reported increasing reports of domestic violence during the crisis in Argentina, Canada, France, Germany, Spain and the United States.
