Below is a list of some of the charities and services that exist to help people who are suffering. It is not an exhaustive list – there may be other help in your area – but we hope you will find this a great starting point.

Rape and Sexual Abuse

RAPE CRISIS CENTRE

Provides information and signposting for victims, partners, friends, professionals and others affected by rape.

MANCHESTER RAPE CRISIS

A confidential support service run by women for women and girls who have been raped or sexually abused.

ST. MARY’S SEXUAL ASSAULT REFERRAL
CENTRE

For those seeking help immediately following rape or sexual assault. A range of services are on offer.

MPower

Supports male survivors of rape and sexual abuse. Also takes calls from partners and family members.

SURVIVORS MANCHESTER

For male survivors of sexual abuse and rape.

Domestic Abuse

WOMENS AID

A national organisation which provides advice, support and a 24hr abuse helpline.

STOCKPORT WITHOUT ABUSE

Offers a range of services to help and support women, men and children affected by domestic abuse.

REFUGE

Offers support, in partnership with Women’s Aid, to help women and children escaping domestic violence.

National Domestic Violence Helpline

If you have been personally affected by abuse or violence or are still in an abusive or violent relationship you can get help. If you are based in the UK you can call the Domestic Violence helpline. It’s a confidential 24 hour service.

SAFE LIVES

Research, training and resources around domestic violence: does not provide direct support.

Spiritual Abuse

MUSLIM YOUTH HELPLINE

Support for vulnerable young people in need.
Common issues range from relationships to mental health concerns, sexual abuse and religious issues.

JEWISH HELPLINE

Reaches out to people across the entire spectrum of Judaism who are facing drug, family or mental health problems.

CCPAS

CCPAS is the only independent Christian charity providing professional advice, training, support and resources in all areas of safeguarding children and adults at risk of harm.

CHRISTIAN SURVIVORS

A website supporting survivors of Christian spiritual abuse.

Honour Violence and Forced Marriage

MUSLIM YOUTH HELPLINE

Support for vulnerable young people in need.
Common issues range from relationships to mental health concerns, sexual abuse and religious issues.

HALO PROJECT

Helping victims of honour-based violence and advising agencies on good practices for dealing with women and men. Help also given regarding forced marriage.

KARMA NIRVANA

Award-winning British Human Rights Charity supporting victims of honour-based abuse and forced marriage.

Sexual War Crimes

WOMEN FOR WOMEN

Women for Women International has been helping women survivors of war rebuild their lives; to date they have helped more than 462,000 marginalised women in 8 countries affected by war and conflict.

VICTIM SUPPORT

For victims of any crime or those affected by a crime committed against someone they know.

Trafficking & Sexual Exploitation

SNOWDROP PROJECT

Snowdrop Project is a charity based in Sheffield, which provides long-term, community support to empower survivors of human trafficking. We work with our clients on an individual basis to ensure their needs, which are often complex, are met.

Addiction, Self Harm and Suicide Support

SAMARITANS

Support for people who are suicidal.

MIND

Provides information on all aspects of mental health difficulties.

NSHN (National Self-Harm Network)

Supports survivors and people who self-harm and supports family and friends. The NSHN forums provide crisis support, information and resources, advice, discussions and distractions.

BETEL UK

Betel UK works with men, women and families affected by drug and alcohol addiction and homelessness.

PAPYRUS

For young people thinking about suicide or those concerned about a young person.

Counselling Services

HAVOCA (Help for Victims of Child Abuse)

Website run by survivors. Provides support, friendship and advice for any adult whose life has been affected by childhood abuse. Includes online forums, “find a therapist” and support group maps.

NAPAC

(National Association for People Abused in Childhood) Offering support to adult survivors and training for those who support them.

BACP

(British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) Callers can check the register to see if a counsellor is registered and use the find a therapist search engine.

STOCKPORT CHRISTIAN COUNSELLING

A confidential counselling service for anyone in need of support

Pornography

NAKED TRUTH

Naked Truth sims to open eyes and frees lives from the damaging impact of pornography by informing, educating and equipping.
